Mobile technologies have been experiencing unprecedented growth and evolution, with no slowdown in sight. Mobility is truly taking IT by storm, forcing management to rethink everything from big-picture infrastructure design to the details of integration with wired and wireless networks. And mobile certifications are following suit.
The IT world is locked into a mobile craze these days. Cisco devotes a vertical website to mobility and is filtering mobility topics into its networking certifications. Citrix says enterprise mobility management is “a top business priority for organizations.” And Aruba Networks’ tagline states “People move, networks must follow,” which embraces mobility and the changing platform habits of today’s workforce.
Mobility touches nearly every facet of the workplace. Where applications, networking, infrastructure and security have always played off each other, it was historically easy to treat each of these elements as somewhat stand-alone as well. But mobility has turned that view upside down and sideways. Network engineers need to support local, remote and mobile users and provide the proper infrastructure. Application and apps development is more heavily slanted toward mobile environments now, and security professionals have to consider mobility from every angle.
